The researchers worked with the National Geographic CritterCam team, which builds tiny mobile information gathering systems to study wild animal behavior. The cat cameras were the smallest they've made to date, National Geographic's Greg Marshall states.

Cats aren't simply a threat to others, they're additionally a risk to themselves. The cats in the study were seen participating in such high-risk conduct as crossing roadways (45 %), eating and drinking things they found (25 %), exploring storm drains (20 %) and entering crawl spaces where they could possibly become trapped (20 %).

Male cats were more likely to do risky things than female cats, and older cats were more cautious than younger ones.
