Entertaining Your Kids on a Languedoc Holiday

Ask any Parent taking a holiday or vacation here in the Languedoc Roussillon, or indeed anywhere, with his/her children and you will definitely have a lengthy discussion about how hard it is to entertain the children and/or make the same put away that smartphone or electronic game! This would not be an issue had it not been for the fact that you paid good money for your children to see the sights and sounds.

So here are a few tips on how to manage your children during the holidays and as our region is Languedoc Roussillon, here in France we will use local places in the area as examples.

Find a Place Where You and your Children Have a Common or Specific Interest
You and your children have common interests and different interests as well; the holiday should be about balance so that everybody has a good time. Get everybody to buy into this and understand that it's a fair way of spending the holiday!

Finding a vacation spot that caters to both is not easy but it is manageable, the first thing you need to understand is that any good holiday will be ruined if your child is not interested in any aspect of it. A good way to create interest is to know what your child is into right now. And then find a holiday location that caters to that interest or find a specific location at your vacation spot that can hold your child's attention for more than 5 minutes. For example, if your children are into rugby then selecting an area like Perpignan or Beziers which has strong rugby ties is going to be a winner. Use the net and try to get some tickets to a game – save this as a surprise and reveal it on the first evening – you'll look like a total hero!

The reality is you need to sell your vacation spot to your children and make sure that they are interested enough that they have fun but still manageable enough that they do not ban or keep you away for future visits. Researching tourist spots and how children friendly they are can be a good thing. For example while you are out enjoying wine tasting in the Corbieres hills, you may want to fit in some time at the amazing African reserve at Sigean – balance, everybody has a great time and no long faces (other than the Zebra's that is!).

Location is all important and trying to find somewhere that will have other kids around is going to really help take the strain. Holiday parks are one great solution; renting a mobile home or cottage on a site that has pools, restaurants and is secure will leave you at ease and ensure the kids have a great time.

Private residences like Domaine des Capitelle in Fitou are another solution. A selection of villas and apartments located on a hill top position, so great views and also having shared pools so plenty of chance for the children to make friends. The balance comes because somewhere like Fitou has the traditional village, plenty of wine producers, restaurants and 'French'ness'!

Finally, familiarity is important for kids, so allow them to pack a small bag with some of the favorite books, toys, gadgets, etc. It will help them to settle faster and ensure a bit of quiet time!

So now your set, you've planned and booked so just relax and have a great time.
