For most people, the idea of custom decks is one of their dreams when it comes to home improvement. Of course everybody wants some outside space where the whole family can chill and enjoy meals when the weather is good. Decks are also perfect for those who have frequent guests but are not really comfortable with having other people inside their homes. If you're already decided on getting a deck for your house, here are some styles and material you'd want to consider.
There are a number of custom decks you can choose from. Find a style that suits your house's structure and the yard or grounds you have. One of the most common is the platform deck which is just slightly elevated from the ground. Because it is low, it is best for those with a really flat yard. It doesn't need any stairs or railings, and you can have it covered with walls on some sides or open. You can have your deck on any side of your home, or better yet have a wraparound one! As the name implies, custom decks of this kind goes around the entire house.
Uneven or inclined terrains call for either bilevel or multilevel custom decks. These types feature two or more levels of deck usually with steps between each level. A cohesive look of all height levels should be achieved with this style.
A loft deck is one that can be accessed from the second floor of a house. It is highly elevated from the ground and you have the alternative of enclosing the area below or keeping it open. Or you might want to have a two-storey deck to maximize the space below too.
With all these types, you always have the option of having some privacy with walls that could either be of wood or even brick material. Your choices are not limited to the walls but to the deck itself. Depending on the look, colour and longevity you are, a wide variety of material is available to meet your specific needs.
Treated wood is the cheapest deck material available. They last relatively long due to chemicals applied to preserve wood and help it resist termites and decay. There are also some that come with built-in water repellent. Cedar on the other hand lends the appeal of wood but is actually more resistant to damaging effects of harsh weather. Composite material from recycled wood fiber and plastic also give the appearance of wood, can be inexpensive depending on the manufacturer but has a somewhat indefinite lifespan. PVC deck is probably the most practical option in terms of cost, appearance, durability and maintenance. It won't rot; it has a built-in UV protection and scratch proof too!
Custom decks building need not be a stressful experience. Eliminate any hassles by doing a research on the right material and style for your home and more importantly the manufacturer that you can trust to provide quality products and services to ensure the best deck you can have.
