A T1 or a T-Carrier line is a type of broadband connection that provides stable internet connectivity. It uses an advanced wiring technology to transfer data, and because of that, it can deliver constant internet speed and secure connections to internet users. However, getting a T1 service is costly; its monthly subscription fee is typically ten times greater than what a DSL provider would charge. The main reason this kind of internet connection is expensive is that the users of this service have their own line of connection. Unlike other internet connection technologies, piggyback riding other connections is not implemented on this service. Nevertheless, depending on the customers' need, T1 providers can choose to share the service to other consumers.
Usually, business owners are the ones who use this service for them to have internet data traffic and voice calls. In the business world, T1 lines are widely used in business telecommunications. It was prominent in the internet service industry even before DSL and cable became popular as a mean of internet connection. As of now, T1 lines are gaining popularity to residential consumers.
The T1 service uses a certain type of phone line that can carry more data than a regular telephone cable. Usually, its lines are made of twisted copper. Today, T1 service providers are using only using fiber optics or glass fibers. On another note, the service wiring has 24 separate channels, and each of them can carry 64 kilobits of data per second. The speed of this service depends on those channels, and before the provider gives this service to the consumer, the channels are separated to handle data or voice first. Because of the special wiring it uses, T1 lines are generally faster than DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) lines and dial-up connections.
T1 services have two types. The first type is full or dedicated T1 lines. This kind of line service is expensive, and it may cost up to $1,000 every month. The connection will not be shared, and the client of this kind of service will be able to enjoy its maximum capability. However, a dedicated service's price depends on its provider. On the other hand, the second type of T1 services is fractional. Customers can share some of the channels of the T1 line, and because of that, it is less expensive than the usual full T1 service. Nevertheless, it is slower than the dedicated services since few of the line's channels will be provided to other fractional service subscribers.
T1 service is very different from the regular internet connection services. It is faster, more stable, and unfortunately more expensive. T1 is a technology that has become accessible to residential consumers, and they are giving this service a very warm welcome. However, because of its price, it is recommendable to think and budget first before subscribing to this service. People must know that this service is not suited for users who sparingly need the internet, and that is the reason this technology was only available to businesses before.
