Any company can say that they are a well run business, but having ISO 9001 Certification is the proof that businesses need to see. Obtaining this certification will allow companies to increase their efficiency and productivity. Having the certification means that a company is going to be held much more accountable for the work they are doing. Roles within the company will become much more defined, and the lines of communication from management to the employees will become much more clear. All of these factors add up to a company becoming much more productive and profitable.

When a company receives the ISO 9001 Certification, they are required to have a manual that shows how the company operates. This manual is independently audited to make sure the actual company procedures and operations are matching up. The company also has to pass an initial audit and then periodic audits throughout the year to maintain their certification.

There is another management system standard known as AS9100 Certification that applies to the defense, space and aircraft industry. Meeting the regulations of this standard allow these types of companies to have a better standard of business. The certification also gives companies a greater chance at obtaining international business as it is a world wide framework. Companies that have met the requirements of the AS9100 will also be in compliance with ISO 9001 since one system was based on the other. The biggest reason for meeting the guidelines of AS9100 is that many customers are going to require it before they will consider doing business.
