Make the wedges in your golf bag as versatile as the different shots that are possible around the green. And the means by which you can achieve versatility is by choosing wedges that can accommodate the different possible shots that a golfer needs to throw in a given setting. If you purchase the right combination of hybrid wedges (that perfectly suits you), you'll have easier time putting and lowering your score.
- Before purchasing, try out those wedges with the driving range that you can find at pro shops. You will be allowed to test those clubs at the display before buying. Check if you enjoy playing with them or if they suit your own unique body movements.
- Examine the clubs' grooves because these grooves affect the number of spins that the ball makes and the direction it takes after launching off the clubface. The kind of grooves should complement your body's movement; especially consider if you are right-handed or otherwise.
- Understand that there are different lofts (angles between the clubface and the handle). Club lofts affect the way the ball moves after being hit. The higher the angular degree, the higher your shots will be and the shorter distance the ball will travel. Your hybrid wedges should have different lofts for different shot needs.
For instance, have the following hybrid wedges combination with their specific lofts: sixty-degree lob wedges, fifty-six-degree sand wedges, fifty-two-degree gap wedges, forty-eight-degree pitching wedges, and thirty-seven-degree chipping wedges.
- During the test, try placing the ball far backward from your stance. Have a large span of green between the flag and you. This way, the clubface is coming from a steep position which should result to pitching shots that are closer to the ground. If desired results are not achieved, then try another wedge with a different loft.
- Put the ball a little forward from you, and then move away from the ball a little more. This is especially for flag shots where the ball is to be made to travel through a bunker or other rough terrain. This positioning is meant to increase the clubface's angular position as it is readied to hit the ball. If the ball isn't able to go through the obstacles, then you'll have to choose another wedge.
- Some wedges will work for different shots. It is important that you discover for yourself which wedge will suit you the most in a given situation. For instance, you want the ball to soar high with several backspins to reach a target spot, then you can use your lob wedges to hit flop shots. However, it is better for you to use your sand wedges in this particular case. Strike the ball with a sand wedge and it will skim through the green towards the hole.
Different golfers have different golf needs. Golf balls are standardized as well as the wedges that they use. You'd be lucky enough if you can find a website that caters to your specific hybrid wedges needs. But that would be costly especially if you are just playing golf for recreation and not as a means of earning.
