Weight loss is a big issue that is constantly talked about all over the world. From beauty magazines to fitness journals and medical blogs, weight management is something that people should aim for and achieve, especially for its health benefits.
That thing is easier said than done, though; many people have experienced first-hand the effects of countless crash-and-burn tactics-the yoyo diets, the starving and the bingeing, the calorie-counting, and so on . Most of the times, these diet fads produce the desired effect but wane over time, and yet people don't ask themselves why.
Why has the weight loss stopped?
1. The Diet Doesn't Work. The simplest questions require the simplest answers. The reason why people stopped losing their weight is because their diet simply doesn't work. The previous weight loss could have resulted from any number of things-stress, the sudden change in diet, and even a placebo-like effect on dieting. When the weight loss stopped, their bodies must have been telling them that what they were doing was pointless.
2. They Didn't Follow Through. It's a fact that losing a few pounds is imperative to good health, yet few people realize that this implies a lifelong change in lifestyle. Many dieters stop losing weight or even gain back their weights because they stopped following the program and went back to their unhealthy ways. In order to keep shedding and to maintain that weight loss, people should follow the program through.
3. They Relied on it Too Much. Another thing that most people lose track of is that losing weight is a process; it's neither a step nor an outcome than once achieved can be kept forever . Relying too much on a diet will have serious effects later on.
4. Using Diets Only. People seem to think that diets are like switches that turn the weight loss option on or off. Diet alone cannot completely take off the weight and excess fat that people have; it should be coupled with a form of exercise in order to maximize the effect.
5. They Have Reached the Plateau. This is something most people have no idea of: there's a certain point when the body stops responding to diet and exercise. It's called the plateau stage. Just like the body of land it's named after, this stage is a steady, unchanged state after a period of successful climbs. However, as most people feel discouraged after not seeing further results, they follow their namesake and spiral down to a steep decline back to their former selves.
Losing weight is a constant struggle that many people have to live with every day; and live with it every day is what they should do. In order to be successful in this struggle, people will need a complete overhaul of their lifestyles and habits. But if it takes a lifetime to achieve a normal healthy weight, then people should start trying to achieve it now.
