This insect feeds primarily on fowl and may get inside houses and buildings and sting humans if they can't find any birds to feed on. Swallow bugs usually feed on swallows (hence the name 'swallow bugs') and are usually found on the birds' nests. When the birds leave their nests and don't return, the swallow bugs leave the nest and may get inside a home or building if they cannot find other bird nests to infest.
