The Irish are very warm-hearted and friendly. They offer amazing hospitality. Dublin is very proud of its heritage. It's also a very modern city that keeps up with present-day culture. Here is a list of my top 10 must do's whilst you visit Dublin.
1. Trinity College – This is where you will find the Book of Kells, which is a manuscript that contains the four Gospels written in Latin by monks. It's been on display in the old library at Trinity College since the 19th century. The Book of Kells attracts well over 500,000 visitors per year.
2. Christ Church Cathedral – Is Dublin's oldest building that dates back to 1038. The beautiful elegant stained glass windows & the floor mosaics attract your attention when you visit. Originally the church was a wooden structure built by King Sitric Silkenbeard, who is the Danish Viking King of Dublin.
3. Dublin Castle – Was built in 1204 dating back to Norman times. The castle has a wonderful medieval vibe to it. The facilities are fantastic, you will find 2 wonderful museums, 2 cafes, an international conference centre, 2 beautiful gardens, government buildings & state apartments. When entering the castle the beautiful paintings & chandeliers take your breath away.
4. National Gallery of Ireland – This is Ireland's largest gallery. You will find many amazing artists on display such as Monet and Picasso. You will also find a collection of amazing European art from the 14th to 20th century. The gallery houses more than 2500 paintings.
5. The Guinness Storehouse – Is a tourist attraction located at St James's Gate Brewery. It's had over four million visitors since opening in November 2000. Whilst visiting the storehouse you get to see how this famous beverage came to be. You can also visit the Gravity Bar on the seventh floor & drink a pint of Guinness which is included in the price of admission.
6. Temple Bar – Is a popular place with tourists for its bars, restaurants, shops, & art galleries. It is also famous for the Temple Bar Trad Fest which is Dublin's biggest Irish music festival. You will also find located in Temple Bar are the Irish Film Centre & the Project Arts Centre, which are both well worth a visit.
7. Smithfield Village – This is where you will find The Old Jameson's Whiskey Distillery which has history & Speciality museums. You will also find many places to eat, drink and shop at Smithfield village. There is also a 220-foot chimney with a glass observation tower. On a clear day the view from the top is spectacular.
8. Grafton Street – You will find many well known department stores, music shops, craft shops etc, on Grafton Street. It's a very well known touristy area with plenty of gift shops. You will find many street performers such as jugglers & living statues. Damien Rice who is now an international musician is an ex-Grafton Street busker.
9. Dublin Zoo – Is a great day out for everybody. Dublin Zoo was established in 1830 which makes it the world's fourth oldest zoo. The zoo has over 235 species of animals & wildlife. The animals are split up into six different areas, which are Fringes of the Artic, World of primates, African Plains, World of cats, City Farm, Pets Corner & the Kaziranga Forest Trail.
10. Saint Stephens Green – This is a beautiful Georgian Park in the city centre. The park was built by the Guinness family in the 19th century. On the North West corner of the park lies a garden for the blind with scented plants that can be handled & are labelled in Braille. The park has always been the main park in the city.
