I received my first labradoodle puppy, Rosco, 6 years ago. I remember scouring the web for hours, investing serious research into what would become my first dog as an adult. It was so exhilarating ... and daunting! There were myriads of breeders advertising labradoodle puppies for sale. There was no lack of extremely cute doodle pups in nearly every state it seemed. Breeder websites assured all sorts of fantastic things like no shedding, flawless companions. I plastered my computer with images of Bocker the labradoodle and had visions of hours and hours spent cuddling with my future, flawless little furball.

But the more I investigated, the more I knew I can't just buy the very first adorable labradoodle I ran across. No, it appeared there was a considerable difference in the labradoodle realm: Different generations, numerous sizes, colors, looks! Soon not all labradoodle puppies for sale met my requirements because not all breeders were of the same level of reputation and quality. A number of breeders didn't charge very much money, but appeared to have slapped together a random poodle and labrador and called it good. Others charged a lot of money but didn't truly offer more. Still others had all sorts of hoops to jump through and were not great communicators. I quickly discovered the importance of health testing and other very important qualities to look for in a labradoodle breeding program. The more breeders I looked at, the more elevated my standards became. If I was going to bring a doggy companion into my world, a dog that would ideally remain alive 15 years, I preferred a healthy, well bred one! I exclusively wanted to support a breeder that worked tirelessly to produce healthy labradoodles of good temperament, not someone who was merely out to hustle a buck at the expense of the dogs in their care.

Before long I chose a small number of breeders that would soon have just the type of labradoodles I was looking for. They met the very important criteria of health testing, good warranties, and impressive reputation.
