One should test the replacement window first to make sure that fits, and then place the sashes and the bumper stops at the middle of the window. Caulk the jambs and the sill angle, and then install the header piece. Position the window properly in the opening, and use the wood shims in case the window needs to be squared out. Fix the mounting screws in place.

Finally, make sure that the sashes slide smoothly; use the adjustment screws, or remove or replace shims to help loosen tight sashes. Apply caulk on the inside of the window and put in the inside stops and finish screws. The caulking gun, caulk tubes, screwdriver, miter saw, replacement window, and cordless drill are the materials used in this step.
