In whatever profession you are, working with self confidence is a plus. To carry out your daily activities you require some measure of confidence What does that word really mean to you? To make sure we are talking about the same thing we find, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain.
Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself It is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling frightened out of your wits Self-confidence is the inner feeling of certainty. It is a feeling of certainty about who you are and what you have to present to the world. It does not necessarily imply 'self-belief' or a belief in one's ability to succeed.
Everyone craves to possess increased self-confidence because it makes life so much easier and so much more fun. People are attracted to you Self confidence is not acting or feeling like you are better than others. It is not the ability to step on others or promote yourself by tearing someone else down. It is the feeling that you are worthwhile and valuable.
However you can't imagine how many people live their lives in absolute terror because they are self conscious. These folk can hardly enjoy their lives. They have low self confidence. They are very scared of doing anything in the public. There are thousands and thousands of such people around you. They can easily be spotted in any gathering. Are you one of them?
Common signs of lack of self confidence
Avoiding eye contact.
When you avoid eye contact you may be saying to the other guy I feel inferior to you.
Sluggish walking and slovenly posture tell a lot about you. They say among other things that you have unpleasant attitude toward yourself.
Scramble for back seats during meetings or public presentations to avoid being conspicuous
Inability to speak up.
Many people with sharp perception and native intelligence often avoid participation in discussions simply because they lack self confidence
Inability to smile often indicates the need to build confidence
Some Causes of Low Self Confidence
Beliefs:
Our beliefs generally affect our level of self confidence. Often when a person lacks it, he likely holds one or more of these beliefs:
Believing that your life is controlled by events outside you or in a false image of yourself. You may believe that you are inferior to other people or you may believe in perfectionism.
Fear:
Fear causes a person to have low self esteem. A fearful person is not self-confident. If you are feeling fearful, it is good to find out why. If it is because you haven't done your homework and are not well prepared for whatever it is you are afraid of, then you should stop and do that work. Being self-confident also means you have prepared yourself as best you can.
Guilt:
Guilt is the next culprit that stops us from getting where we want to be. If you experience many guilty feelings, it will cause low self confidence and esteem. You need not feel guilty about anything. If you've wronged someone, make up for it. Ask for forgiveness. Most likely, you'll receive it.
Unrealistic Expectations
Unrealistic expectations on yourself, can lead to low self confidence
Set your Self Confidence on autopilot
1. Pay attention to your dressing
Clothes don't make the man, but they affect the way he feels about himself. If you don't look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people and reduces your self confidence. Take care of your personal appearance. You can make significant improvements to your appearance by bathing and shaving frequently and wearing clean clothes and being aware of the latest styles.
This doesn't mean you should spend a lot on clothes. A rule of the thumb in buying clothes is buy high quality items. In the long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap ones.
1. Walk Faster
People with confidence walk quickly. They have people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren't in a hurry, you can increase your self confidence by walking faster. It will make you look and feel more important.
3. Good Posture
The way a person carries himself says a lot about that person. People with slumped shoulders and lethargic movements display a lack of self confidence. They are apathetic about what they're doing. By practicing good posture, you'll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You'll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert .
4. Compliment other people
When you get into the habit of praising other people, avoid gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you, people will like you and your self confidence will soar. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.
5. Sit in the front row
Sit in the front row, when in meetings. You'll be more visible to the important people talking from the front of the room and you'll increase your self confidence.
6. Speak up
By attempting to speak up in any group discussion, you'll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your colleagues.
7. With smiles focus on contributing
Too often we focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. You worry much about your own short comings and don't smile enough. Focus on other people's needs. This will increase self confidence and allow you to contribute with maximum efficiency. The more you give to the world the more you'll be rewarded with personal success and recognition When you follow the foregoing steps you will find your self confidence shooting up I personally have practiced these seven steps right from my student days and continued in my working days and have retired from work still practicing them because they produce results.
