In any workplace the employers have their own set of rights, just as their employees do, and knowing what these rights can actually make a person a better worker . People should try their best to know even just the basic employer rights, if they know about them then they would naturally take care not to usurp these rights because they can be used against them.
The employers rights vary according to the labor laws of the different states, but there are a lot of similarities that one state's laws have with the others. Here are a couple of the basic employer rights as stated in the labor laws, and it would be in your best interest to understand and remember each one of them:
• To expect their employees to perform their agreed-upon duties. The employee should strive to perform all of his duties and responsibilities as specified in the contract.
• To expect their employees to to follow all of their lawful and reasonable instructions. If the employer gives an employee a request or an instruction, if the person has the capability to do it then he should do so.
• To expect their employees to behave accordingly when in the workplace and to follow the company's Disciplinary Code. The employee should always act with a degree of civility that gives respect not only to the employer but to the entire company.
• To place reasonable expectations on their employees regarding their performance at work. The employees should always strive to always attain a high degree of quality in their work.
• To expect that their employees will be loyal to them and to the company. Employees should only have the best interests in mind for their company and their job.
• To expect their employees to employ their prescribed resources and methods when doing a certain job. But if there is a method that the job could be done more efficiently, the details should be run through them first.
• To expect their employees report any dishonest or unlawful practices going on within the company. This can be pretty hard to enforce since only a few people are comfortable enough to speak up against their fellow worker on fear of retaliation.
• To discipline employees that are in violation of the company's rules and regulations or if the employee is not performing as expected.
• To terminate an employee as long as there is just cause, like when the person has repeatedly violated a number of company regulations.
• To withhold employees' pay if they go on strike.
At first glance it seems that employer rights are not as many as those of employees, but they still do a great job in protecting the employer. Knowing these rights does not only benefit the employer, they can also help the employee as well. By reading up on the different employer rights employees will have an idea on what are expected of them, and how they should go about with their assigned duties .
