Fridge parts
Each refrigerator has a number of different parts and if you want your fridge parts to last as long as they should, you will need to properly maintain the unit. For manual defrost fridge freezers, you do not have to do very much.
When you see the frost built up on the wall of the freezer within your fridge parts to about 1/2 an inch or so, take all of the food out of the fridge and freezer. You will them turn off the fridge or unplug it from the wall. Allow the frost that has built up to melt and then plug it back in and let the unit cool back down. You can then replace the food items into the unit. That is about all you need to do to fridge parts from a unit of this nature.
There are also fridge/freezer combinations that self defrost. That means that every 6-8 hours or so, the unit will heat slightly so the frost that has accumulated can melt. The water will then drain into a pan at the bottom of the unit. You do not even need to empty the pan because the water will evaporate. If you notice your fridge smelling on occasion, simply remove the pan and clean it. To get to the pan, just take the grill on the front of the fridge off and slide the pan out.
Sometimes, mold can grow in the pans that lay underneath your fridge. If you are sensitive to mold, it is a good idea to clean the pan on a regular basis. It cannot only smell, but it can lead to health concerns.
These fridge parts and units should also have their coils cleaned once a year. The cooling fan can be cleaned at the same time. The coils look like a grate, but you will need to unplug your fridge before you clean them. Then simply take a brush and clean the lint, hair, and dirt from the coils.
You should also clean the gasket on the inside of the fridge when you are doing maintenance on the unit. The rest of the fridge can be cleaned at that time as long as you are emptying its contents anyways.
If your fridge has any type of odor and you have already checked the pan of water beneath it, try baking soda to help the odor. You can also get deodorizers that are made especially for fridge parts that have a foul scent of some kind.
If you clean and maintain your fridge parts on a regular basis, your unit will likely hold up better as the years pass. You will find yourself having to replace less fridge parts as the years go by.
