Opti-Logic laser golf range finder models are some of the most popular among amateur golfers looking for trustworthy yardage devices. Opti-Logic is one of the most respected producers of optical instruments in the industry and produced the first Ballistics Compensating Laser Rangefinders for the consumer market. All Opti-Logic range finders offer line-of-sight yardage measurements with an accuracy of +1/-1 yard. Other typical features include automatic rain mode, four yard minimum yardage distance, One Touch red dot or LCD targeting with Instant On-Automatic Shutoff Operation.
The Opti-Logic laser golf range finder range of models specifically designed for golfers are the InSight GL and InSight GT, which are among the most affordable rangefinders on the market. Both are extremely compact rangefinders that weigh less than 11 oz and have dimensions of 1.5-inches by 4-inches by 5-inches. They display distances in either yards or meters and readings are displayed in red on the viewfinder s lower right corner. The InSight range finders also have an external readout located to the right of the viewfinder that displays the setting and current mode, as well as distance readings. And the viewfinder is easy to read in a variety of light conditions, even dim light. They are powered with a single 9-volt battery which lasts for some 1,000 readings.
The InSight GL is a horizontally-oriented rangefinder that is easy-to-use and features two modes. The line-of-sight feature involves simply aiming the rangefinder at the target to get a reading and pressing a button. Just center the red dot in the viewfinder on the desired target, then release the button to fire the laser. Once the dot blinks out, the distance will be displayed. You can also turn on a chirp feature that makes an audible noise when the distance has been measured. The Pin Point Technology feature allows the rangefinder to zero in on the highlighted goal while ignoring other objects in the background such as foliage. To change between modes, simply hold down the button for four seconds until the display disappears and then hold it down again to cycle through the modes. The InSight GL can obtain measurements for targets up to 1,200 yards and is housed in an attractive dark blue casing.
The InSight GT Opti-Logic laser golf range finder has features comparable to its sister device but has three modes. The line-of-sight feature is the simplest to use as you simply point the rangefinder towards the desired target and press the button to get a reading. The PinPoint Technology allows you to pick up a target while ignoring other objects in the background which may be more reflective. The Slope Compensated Horizontal Distance feature is available only with the GT which provides distance readings adjusted for downhill or uphill slopes. Each mode has four settings, including standard, reflective (for measuring flag-mounted reflectors) and chirp modes that make a chirp when the distance is measured. However, the GL does not display the angle of the slope or non-adjusted distance making it non-USGA compliant. Hence, scores that you earned while using this range finder cannot be used for maintaining a United States Golf Association handicap. The InSight GT is housed in a bright yellow housing.
