We stayed in a beautifully furnished villa near the beach front. The biggest luxury was the amount of area that was offered. My sister could have an afternoon snooze in the bedroom while I read a book on the sofa. And we didn't miss out on room service because there was a cornucopia of eateries around at a fraction of 5 star resort prices. Best of all, one of the founders, Linda came to welcome us and tipped us off to the very best spots, assisting us escape the typical traveller traps. We had a sensational New Year's Eve at a Greek style bar advised by Linda and watched exceptional fireworks at midnight on the beach.

After that, came a vacation to Coorg in the hill nation of Karnataka. Coorg has only a couple of resorts however there are many homestays run by plantation owners. The notion of staying on a green and gorgeous estate pleased greatly. So I searched far and wide on the Internet and found Sandbanks. It remains one of my cherished holidays till date. Some of the magic originated from the charm of Coorg itself however most of it was because of Sandbanks. Micky and Sapna, our hosts were warm and hospitable, helpful but not intrusive at all. From making hard-to-find fish for lunch time to drawing us comprehensive maps for advising us about their customs, we experienced the famous hospitality of the Kodavas in full force. We did leisurely estate strolls, bird watching and reading in the hammocks whilst taking pleasure in nature's beauty. I required a break from a hectic work schedule and it ended up all that and a lot more.

I could well go on to describe each of my holidays after that however then it would be more a book, less a post. The advantages of being almost a local in new places, the personalized service and info, the contribution to local economy and the satisfaction of low impact trip means that after these 2 vacations there has been no looking back.
