If you re planning on buying a dryer, you will quickly realize that there are two basic types of clothes dryers available. These are gas dryers and electric dryers. In most situations, the set up of your home will determine which type of dryer you should use. However, if you don t already have dryer connectors or you are building a new home then you may have the option of either gas or electric. Although they are very similar and both serve the same basic function of drying clothes, there are some differences.
Gas dryers were around first, and they are mostly common in older homes. As the name suggests they use gas to power them. Electric dryers on the other hand are often used in much newer homes and they run off of electricity. The prices of both dryers are similar although gas clothes dryers are generally known for being slightly more affordable. Even though gas dryers are quite common in older homes, companies are still continuously making new versions of gas dryers to fit the needs of those who have gas hook ups in their home. This means whether you need a gas dryer or an electric dryer you will still have many, top of the line options to choose from.
One of the biggest differences in gas dryers and electric dryers comes in the parts that are used in these appliances. Even though the machines are very similar on the outside and often do not look any different from one another in terms of their exterior appearance, they are actually quite different on the inside. Electric dryers use less parts than gas dryers. While to the average consumer this doesn t mean much, it can be of significance if your dryer stops working and you need extra dryer parts. Typically, since electric dryers use less parts, there are less possibilities for issues with electric dryers as there are fewer parts that can be broken. Although this typically this means that more gas dryers will have issues or need replacement parts because there are more possibilities for parts breaking down it doesn t mean that electric dryers are more reliable or better options.
Although there aren t as many different issues that can arise with electric dryers they are still appliances and therefore still prone to breaking down and having issues. However, if you have a gas dryer and are noticing that its not working it can be harder to diagnose because there are so many different parts in gas dryers when compared to electric. Although this won t really matter when you buy the appliance if you gas dryer does stop working you should know that it may be harder to diagnose the issue at hand.
