Carrier furnace parts
If you are having trouble with your Carrier furnace parts, there are many things you can do to troubleshoot the situation before you call in a professional and spend money to have it fixed for you. Before you begin any troubleshooting or maintenance or cleaning, make sure you turn off the electrical power if your furnace is electric or disconnect and shut off the gas if the furnace operates on gas. You can prevent injuries by making sure the unit is safe to work on before you dig in and start troubleshooting.
There are many things that could be wrong with your Carrier furnace parts. If your furnace igniter, for example, will not glow, it might be bad or need some kind of repair or maintenance. Thermostats need heat and if you want to test the control board, the safety switch should be pressed in while you do so. You will need to test the draft inducer motor to see if it will start. If it does not, you might have a thermostat problem including the wiring or a bad relay. You can also test the pressure switch to see if it is getting the senses it needs. Some of these problems might require a new igniter, a new pressure switch, control board, limit switch, or rollout switch, depending on the results of your tests.
If you want to test your pressure switch to make sure it is operating the right way, set the meter on your device to volts and then turn the furnace on so it can heat. The draft inducer should start at that point and there will be two or three wires going from that into the pressure switch. Probe one of those and tough the meter to the ground in a bare area. You should get a reading of 24 or more volts between those two areas and the ground. IF you do not, your pressure switch might be your carrier furnace parts issue.
If you have electric heat and the fan will not come on, buy a Volt Ohm meter and inspect the inside of the air handler for any burned wires. This problem is common and can be easily fixed. Some of the connections inside the furnace might also be loose and allow the heat to build up within the furnace and not allow all of it to get out. You can also test the sequencers to see if they are working.
If you do not feel comfortable with these sorts of tests, is it a good idea to call a professional in to help you diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix your Carrier furnace parts issues. You will have to pay more, but at least you will be warm all winter long.
