Getting new residential roofing installed isn't a cheap process. Most people end up having to finance the process. The best part about knowing that you're home's covered with a brand new roof is the knowledge that your roof looks great, something you can fully expect it to do for a minimum of 15 years.
One of the issues some homeowners find very frustrating is to look up at their roof and notice that the shingles have started to turn colors. Sometimes the residential roofing shingles turn green, the result of mildew forming on their surface, other times the shingles turn black with algae. Even the shingles which are supposed to be algae resistant will sometimes become discolored several years before you plan on replacing them.
More often than not the result of the oddly colored residential roofing shingles has been caused by moisture. In a perfect situation, the moisture from rain and dew should run right off the shingles, but sometimes it doesn't. When the moisture lingers on the shingle, it provides the perfect breeding ground for algae and mildew. While drying your roof with a towel after every rain storm might not be very practical, you can do some things to prevent the growth of algae and mildew.
The first thing you need to do is check out your gutters. Even if you don't have any trees near your hose, it's still easy for your rain gutters to fill up with leaves. Leaves can blow for quite some distance and it seems like they always end up trapped in a gutter. When this happens the water can't run off your roof so it builds up on your shingles. By cleaning the debris from your gutters on a regular basis, the water will be able to drip from your residential roofing rather than puddling. You won't believe how much cleaning your gutters prevents the growth of mildew and algae.
The second thing you need to do is make sure you're diligent about checking out your roof. Even though shingles should last for multiple decades, once in a while one will peel up, break, or be blown free of your roof. When this happens, it interferes with the flow of water off your roof and provides the perfect opportunity for mildew and algae to start taking over.
You really need to consider investing in some roof coating. Not only should you have your roof coated with the roof coating when the roof's first installed, you should make sure you apply regular applications. Not only will the residential roofing coating help prevent the growth of unsightly mildew and algae, but some of the roof coatings have been designed to help protect the roof from the damaging effects of UV rays.
