Grand Canyon aerial tours are without a doubt one of the best ways to experience this incredible national park. Those who only have a day or two to explore the park will also welcome the aerial views.
Points of Departure
The only two areas in which helicopters are permitted to fly at the canyon are the West Rim and the South Rim. If you are starting out from Vegas, the West Rim is the destination for you. It is only a 120 mile ride from the city to the West Rim.
For those who truly wish to see the South Rim of the canyon, a 45 minute diversion and transfer by airplane will be necessary. The South Rim helicopter tours take off every single day from the Grand Canyon Airport, directly outside the main gates of the National Park. These tours are great if you are driving from Arizona.
Types of Helicopter Tours
Compared to the South Rim tours, the West Rim provides more side trips. You could try the air-only tour, but most want a bit more. The landing tour is the most popular. The flight will take you the full four thousand feet to the bottom, and will then land. At the bottom you will likely enjoy a Champagne picnic. You will also have plenty of time to explore. If you wish, you can always add a Grand Canyon river rafting package to the package.
To make it even better, you can try the Skywalk. The package allows you to experience the entire walkway. This piece of modern engineering will permit you to walk past the edge of the West Rim and see things you could never have imagined. Below you, about 4,000 feet, you will see the Colorado River.
On the South Rim you will find a plethora of natural beauty. A helicopter tour does a great job of displaying this. Landing strips are non-existent at this rim. The most popular flight takes you over the Kaibab Plateau and into the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest part of the canyon, before turning back at the North Rim. Flight time is 30 minutes, but you can extend it up to 50 minutes. If you want, you can also upgrade the package to include the EcoStar 130 helicopter.
Find a Good Deal!
There are two very simple things that must be done if you are to get a good deal on your helicopter tour. First of all, reserve ahead of time. If you can get a month or two in front of this, you'll win the game. Start shopping online. There's a lot of great deals on the Web. I regularly find special promotions in which you can save up to 35%. It takes a little work but it's worth it.
Buckle Up!
Grand Canyon heli tours are the best way to explore the National Park. Flights go to the West Rim and the South Rim. The West Rim provides some great landing tours. Only air tours are available on the South Rim. If you have proper funding, then upgrading to the EcoStar 130 would be to your benefit. Though you could of course use by two steps to saving and add a few side trips to your package. The canyon is an aerial delight. Thankfully, there are plenty of heli tours available that let you experience it.
