One trine includes the rat, monkey and dragon. These individuals are powerful and capable of performing immense evil or enormous good in their lives. They can be narcissistic and power hungry. They have a fierce intellect and are eloquent and charismatic.

The rooster, ox and snake are within the next trine. They have enormous perseverance. They plan well and are extremely organized. They also travel according to a strong moral compass.

Another trine represents the tiger, horse and dog. These are the romantics of the world, and are in constant pursuit of true love. They're also often reckless, moody and anxious. They can become aggressive when offended.

The pig, rabbit and goat form part of the other trine. They take great pleasure in aesthetics and are creative. They make calm leaders and are extremely intuitive. They also show much compassion but have the capacity to be detached.

Animals weren't always used as symbols. Instead, earthly branches were symbols. People found animals to be more fun and also easier to use so they replaced their previous symbols. Every animal does possess certain traits which are relevant to the characters they represent.

Every day also has a special time for each animal, during which certain behaviors are strong. The monkey, for example, becomes energetic between 3pm and 5pm. The dog becomes fiercely protective between 7pm and 9pm. The Chinese zodiac has roots in ancient tales and folklore, and is thus a fascinating topic to look into.
