Music instruments are costly therefore you should place them in cases for protection. Because of this, there is a need to clean the case often. Your violin, guitar, saxophone and trombone all have cases that also deserve the attention and care you give your music instruments. The case can become dirty because of residue while at other times it can become smelly. Usually when you buy second-hand music instruments, its case comes with a smell. It is thus vital to clean the case every two months so that whatever music instruments you have will get the best care and level of protection.
To clean the storage case of your music instruments, take the music instruments out. This should include the accessories that go with them. Get a small vacuum cleaner and vacuum the interior of the case. Use a long nozzle to get to the corners and crevices of the case. This shall take away any dirt, dust or residue from the surface.
Once you are certain that there are no more particles in the case, get a bucket and fill it with 9 parts of warm water mixed with 1 part of vinegar. Get a small amount of the mixture and test it on a tiny part of the case's interior. This is to check if the bleach would affect the interior's fabric although no harm can be done because of the minimal amount of vinegar.
If nothing happens to the fabric, wipe the interior and exterior of the case with a clean rag that is damp with the cleaning mixture. Make sure you wring out excess water prior to applying it on the fabric inside. Do not apply too much of the mixture. If your case's material or fabric is sensitive, use a disinfectant wipe. You can also use the wipe to rub away any leftover residue or mold. There is no need to use any type of disinfectant spray as the vinegar will remove any smells or residue.
After cleaning, let the case air dry while it is open. You can put the case under sunlight for a couple of hours for it to dry. You can also place it beside a fan when there is no sunlight. Remember not to use any sprays on the case if you have any music instruments inside.
At times you need to just freshen up the case. To do this, just place a couple of dryer sheets inside. Place a sheet in each of the compartments as well. Leave the case open for a night exposing its compartments and fabric liners. Do not take off the dryer sheets from the case and its compartments. The next day, place whatever music instruments you have and their accessories inside. For your case to smell fresh always, take off old dryer sheets and replace them with new ones. There are different scents and brands of dryer sheets and any of these will work well. You can choose the smell you like, although you should keep in mind that there are toxic chemicals in the scented ones.
Although it is not usually taught and many people don't think to do it, the case of music instruments needs to be cared for too. Cleaning the case of music instruments is a way to properly care for and protect it. If your music instruments are taken care of and maintained properly, you can preserve their lifespan and enjoy them for a long time.
