Music instruments have always been a tool that produces wonderful sounds. In England, this was used during the ancient and medieval times so as to go along with chants and tales of hope, adventure and strength. The organetto, harps and bagpipes were the instruments used before. presently, contemporary and modern sounds are created by today's music instruments.
There were various classifications that have been used for music instruments. It was in 1914 when E.N. Hornbostel and Curt Sachs created the classification system. This system was accepted by musicologists and anthropologists as it can be applied to instruments that are exotic, primitive and modern Western. The system consists of 5 major classes such as percussion instruments called membranophones which contain a membrane extended on an empty resonator, strings or chordophones, reeds and winds which are called aerophones, idiophones which are created with sonorous material and do not require additional tension, and electrophones or instruments that vibrate like an organ or an electric guitar.
Membranophones are the usual and oldest music instruments which are present in a symphony orchestra. These include a timpani and roto toms, also called tom-tom drums, requiring manual turns to be tuned. The American manufacturer called Remo made the roto toms. Another type of membranophone is the tenor drum which comes out with rich and deep sounds and needs the similar methods utilized when playing a snare drum. In Latin America, a famous example of a membranophone is a bongo which comes in pairs.
The violin is an example of a chordophone which is the smallest of the music instruments with strings in an orchestra and has the highest pitch. It is also referred to as a fiddle when used in bluegrass and country music. The biggest music instruments in an orchestra that uses strings are the bass. These are used in various music genres like jazz and classical music.
An example of an aerophone is the piccolo which is almost the same to the flute but smaller. Like the flute, it has fingering patterns and note arrangements. The piccolo however produces a higher pitch. Before, flutes were made of wood but now they are made of metal and can still come up with joyful and vibrant sounds like the flutes made of wood.
Idiophones only come up with rhythmic sounds. An example is the xylophone and this comes out with a melody. Secondary idiophones are ankle shakers and the djembe as musicians do not directly play them. These are connected to the arms, ankles or a different idiophone.
Examples of music instruments that turn into electrophones are the guitar and piano which use an electric amplifier to change and increase their sounds. Music instruments that produce sounds out of electrical vibration also belong to a different electrophone category. It was however, only in the 20th century when music coming from these instruments was developed.
Life is not complete without hearing beautiful sounds like music. Mixing the unique sounds of different music instruments will produce such music. The sounds music instruments produce affects people by rousing different emotions from them.
