From Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, you will find plenty of tour types available. You'll discover air only flights and choices that combine rafting with them. For those looking, the following article focuses on some of the most popular flight choices. There is little doubt that you will have an exceptional experience when you book any of these choices.
First, Some Logistics
When you look at Las Vegas helicopters, you will note that they only enter the Grand Canyon from the west along the West Rim. This portion of the canyon is 125 miles away from the city. The flight is 45 minutes. Those wanting a South Rim helicopter flight will have to bundle that with a bus or airplane ride.
The West Rim is located on the Hualapai Indian Reservation, which borders the Grand Canyon National Park. The rim has a number of things it is famous for, including the 70 foot Skywalk. This is also the only spot where you can fly to the bottom.
Helicopter Tours of the West Rim
You will note that there are two kinds of helicopter tours: Air Tours as well as Bottom-Landing Tours. Here is the Details :
1. Air Only. Flight from Vegas. Travels over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Turns back over the West Rim, where you'll see the Colorado River, Guano Point, Eagle Point, Grand Cliffs Wash, the Skywalk and more. Total tour time is approximately 4 hours and comes with complimentary hotel shuttle service.
2. A Look at Landing Tours. These trips follow the same route as the air tours but land in the Reservation. Specifically:
A. The Bottom Landing. You are lowered 4,000 feet to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Disembark, enjoy Champagne breakfast, brunch or toast. Here, you can explore the floor as well as the riverbank. Overall, the trip lasts 5 hours and does come with free shuttle service.
B. Bottom Landing with Boat & Skywalk. This trip extends the one above with a Colorado River boat ride and VIP passes to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Lasts about 6 hours and comes with free transport to and from all Las Vegas resort-hotels.
C. Skywalk tour. Lands at Grand Canyon West Airport. Shuttle ride to the Glass Bridge. Observation deck access along with a 2 hour period to explore the rim. Sights include Eagle and Guano Points and the Indian Cultural Center.
These are the most popular tours from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and they sell out quickly. My recommendation is that you reserve your seats at least one week in advance. Doing this last minute can be problematic and is often best only done if you are going to be traveling alone.
Purchase your tour while in Las Vegas and you'll be overcharged. To get the best deal, consider the three simple steps:
1. Book in advance (further out the better!)
2. Purchase your tour package over the internet.
3. Complete the entire transaction online.
You will find that #3 is a very important one. Should you give an agent the chance to complete your online booking, there is a good chance you will pay too much. Today's travel websites are safe and secure. This is the only way I buy travel nowadays and I've never had an issue.
Las Vegas is a great place from whence to take a Grand Canyon helicopter tour. Best of all there is plenty of options and the prices are competitive. Best of all; the West rime is less than an hour away. It's also the only place in the National Park where you can fly to the bottom. As you plan your trip to Sin City, make sure you add a canyon helicopter ride. You will have the time of your life.
