The recessed type is usually sixty inches long and fourteen inches deep, which perfectly fits a standard five-by-seven foot bathroom. However, there are also units that are sixteen inches deep and seventy-two inches long. A lot of recessed bathtubs are made from steel with an enamel polish. Although this option is economical, its light weight causes noise and they tend to chip easily. A better but pricey option is the whirlpool bath that is made of cast iron with enamel polish.

Drop-in bathtubs - these baths are commonly installed into a platform. This kind of whirlpool bath can also be installed into the floor. There are models that include a rim while others are rimless so it is level with the floor. They are available in various shapes and a lot are made from plastic or acrylic with fiberglass. Although light in weight, they are prone to dulling and scratching. A drop-in whirlpool bath made from enameled cast iron is more sturdy but it is important to determine if the floor in your bathroom is strong enough to carry the weight without support.

Freestanding bathtubs - this kind of bath includes the famous claw-foot bathtub - but any bathtub that has four legs also qualifies. Most freestanding baths directly sit on the floor but a few types that are made to fit in a platform are also available. These baths are known to be the most expensive because all four sides are exposed. If you want a cheaper type, opt for a reproduction, which is usually made of lightweight materials.

Corner bathtubs - these baths are perfect for small spaces as they can fit into a corner. This is just like the recessed type but it has 2 finished sides. Corner bathtubs are available in box and triangular shapes.

Aside from the various types of whirlpool baths, there are also different features that you can consider such as the following:

Hydrotherapy - this type is the most common feature in whirlpool baths. It pumps out water from six or more jets. This kind is perfect for lowering blood pressure, relaxing muscles and reducing stress.

Thermal air - this kind uses heated air bubbles that are evenly spread over the body. It has thermostat, which is useful in controlling the temperature of the water as well as the force of the bubbles.

Combination of hydrotherapy and thermal air - this type is perfect for the whole family since you can choose which feature you want to use.
