Another difference between frozen dried or dehydrated foods and MREs is that the former are perishable while the latter is not. Non-perishable are those that do not spoil such as chocolate bars, air-sealed chips, pasta, sugar, curls and flour. The non-perishable foods are great during emergency situations when one does not know when he or she would be able to have normal and cooked food again.

Perishable foods rot very fast. Even if you place them in refrigerators or freezers, they will eventually spoil. MREs are dry and they can last for a long time even if they are not refrigerated or frozen. in addition, non-perishables also have enough calories that will make one survive the day. A chocolate for example can have around 500 calories thus two bars of it can be enough in one meal.

It is important to buy the right type of MREs as this will help one survive a calamity, disaster or an emergency. There are many online survival shops but it is vital to pick a reputable website. Such a meal would cost an average of $50 for a dozen. These are very helpful in emergencies where one does not have the luxury to rinse, cook and prepare your meals. Again these foods, such as chocolate and energy bars, go along with the whole survival kit. Usually when one buys a survival kit, he cannot choose and pick the meal as there is already a certain type of food included in the set.
