Tile flooring is a type of flooring that has such a wide array of options that most people outside of the interior decorating world are happy to only know one type of tile. First tiles are categorized by the material they are made from, then they are again categorized by the room they are best placed in, and are yet put into another category by their density, quality and durability, and then you have the design category. For the average home owner, those are more options than we care to think about.
However, copious amounts of variety not withstanding, when you are doing a home remodeling job, you may need to have a little more information on what your options are in order to get the best value for money. Here are a few quick facts that will help you wade through those options easier.
There are a number of very good reasons why having tiles on your list of remodeling options is a good choice. For starters, most home decoration shops will have one variety or other of tiles in store. This means that you do not need to search too far to get a sampling. Tiles are easy to get and the price ranges gives you a lot of room to maneuver within your budget.
For simple shaped spaces such as square and rectangular rooms, tiles are relatively easy to do a self installation job. With a short meeting with the supplier, you should have the basic tools and materials required to do a fine installation job even if it is your first time ever. Most tiles are cut into square or rectangular shapes and will only require cutting for the final line in a room.
As a rule, it is rare to ever find a room that will fit tiles exactly right as whole pieces on the last row. However, your supplier should be well able to guide you on how to cut those last pieces with no problem at all. This means that you can make a considerable saving on your remodeling costs by doing the work yourself.
Tiles, in whatever material, whether they are made from stone, granite, marble, plastic, or other materials are generally very easy to clean. A good example is that most bathrooms will have tiles on the walls and yet these are relatively easy to clean with the right detergent. Add the ease of maintenance to their over all appeal to the eye, and a tiled floor or wall is a good choice for decorating.
There is only one major known disadvantage to using tile flooring - the possibility of breakage. Other than the plastic ones, tiles, especially as you go lower on the quality gauge, do and will break. This could be during transportation from the shop, during installation, when already installed and at any other time in between. Though the breakage may not happen to many of them at once, it is highly likely that you will get a breakage which will mean replacement of the tile.
