However, what most people don't realize is that there is still a significant difference between these items. Although it might not be obvious at first, not all turbines carry the same type of blade. There are actually two specific designs that are being used today for turbine manufacturing. For those who are in the market to buy these products, following are the two turbine blade types in question.

Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines

The horizontal axis wind turbine is the most common type nowadays. It also goes by the name of HAWT and bears very close resemblance to windmills. The turbine usually has three blades that are long and slightly curved so that it can catch the wind. They are usually placed up high, perhaps in the rooftop or any location where the wind is not blocked. This way, they will be able to get maximum wind speed that would help them rotate and ultimately create energy. This type of wind turbine is the most commonly seen nowadays and is the design where most wind energy kits are made of.

Vertical Access Wind Turbines

This particular design became popular for some years before being overtaken again by the HAWT design. Abbreviated to VAWT way to describe this model is like an egg beater. The air basically hits the blades on the side, allowing it to rotate in place like a ball. The main reason why this particular turbine was created was for the simple fact that it is smaller. Hence, there's a good chance of installing them in an area with less space but still get excellent results.

Which one is better?

The better of the two actually depends on the needs of the user. For example, those who have ample room in their home would have no problem installing the HAWT system. However, those who want to save on space might prefer the VAWT design. In terms of energy provided however, both are basically the same. Since VAWT was specially designed by professionals, it only makes sense that it could provide the same results as those of HAWT. However, the vertical turbine is still not that popular mostly due to the standing belief of the people that turbines should look like electric fans.

All in all, individuals who want to install a wind turbine in their home have these two options to choose from. However, take note that this isn't the extent of the decision making process. Individuals should also consider how large they want the turbine, how much electricity they want to produce and of course, the budget they intend to spend on the project.
