Regardless if you regard it as an innocuous way to relax and meditate, or some kind of a gateway portal to the proverbial "Dark Side", and undoubtedly abysmal consequences, one thing is for sure, the cannabis plant is here for the long run, so you'd might as well try and educate yourself about it, right? In doing so, as an admittedly avid marijuana information junkie of sorts, I must forewarn the necessity of prudent source checks, as credibility is key to honest discourse about subject matter of such relevance, and dispute.
Lest you be of the opinion that this subject matter, marijuana, is not all that important, well, just take a moment to think about a few things if you will. The current legal climate surrounding marijuana in this nation is tearing up untold numbers of otherwise entirely healthy and functional family units, tearing parents and children apart, often irreparably so. Then there is the upsurge of paramilitary raids on American homeowners, often the wrong ones, and the not to mention the untold billions of tax-payer dollars being regularly thrown at these misdirected and hopelessly unfruitful drug-war created activities. Truth be told, the current government bankrolled war on hemp directly affects us all, and in important and highly pertinent ways.
In my limitless quest for cannabis related understanding, I came crossed a book about the history of cannabis that featured a somewhat new standpoint, that of a British writer. Martin Booth, a British novelist, teacher, screenwriter, and poet, is also acclaimed for his sweeping history of opium, so subject matter like cannabis would be automatically comfortable to work with. Booth's treatment of this subject matter, much like his previous works on opium, is generally well researched and neutral in its approach. One of the best things about Martin Booth's style, at least in these types of non-fiction compositions, is that he likes to provide substantial amounts of related information to the reader.
All in all I felt this was a solid read, and worthy of one's time, be they global marijuana activists, or simply someone with little to no awareness of marijuana history whatsoever. A couple happy notes to add; For the time being, you can find this at a discounted price at Amazon, and it's also available as a book for the red hot kindle e-book readers!
