The season of summer is approaching and for the fanatics of spring buds, days would be lifeless again. But it can't be helped since it needs time to restore sufficient energy needed for the next blooming season. Summer is the dormancy period of the flowering bulbs. As the flower dies off, the roots that nourish the flowers dies with it as well. But once summer's over and rain starts dripping on the soil, the roots come back to life and its duty to give nutrients to the build, thereby restoring the requirements for reblooming. Here are some of the necessities for a flower bulb to bloom once again:
Seed heads Removal
The bulb is trying to restore energy for the next season and it needs every possible means or source of energy it can get. The principal site for this would have to be the leaves that were left after flowering. These leaves also supply energy to the seed heads. Therefore, you must remove seed heads to concentrate all the leaves' efforts to the bulb.
Mowing Foliage
Visually, seeing shrubbery remnants is somehow unpleasant especially in a publicly exposed area where a good landscape is essential. But you should not be impatient in weeding out these foliages. Remember that the plants gather their needed energy for the next season from its leaves. The process of photosynthesis makes this possible. Now if you cut it off earlier than it can produce energy for itself, it may not be sufficient thus making it to rebloom a very difficult task.
Water
As a general guideline for all flowers, keeping it adequately moist is a must. Approximately, about one inch of water is needed by flowers per week. However, this can be modified especially when the weather's too hot that the plant is vastly drying. Moreover, in plant bulbs, watering is a critical task for too much water may cause the bulb to rot.
Clumps Digging
During its dormant period, digging of the plant bulbs is now possible. This is done to divide and spread the bulbs onto the flower bed to avoid clumping of the bulbs. Clumping underneath the ground would also entail overcrowding of the blooms, which may cause excessive shrubbery. Therefore to maintain your lawn's lustrous appearance, digging of clumps must be done.
Fertilizer
As a general nourishment requirement for plants and flowers, fertilizer must also be applied to these plant bulbs. Bulbs need phosphorous to enable the maturity of roots. In fact, when you're beginning to plant bulbs, you must immediately incorporate fertilizer in forms of bone meal or superphosphate into the bottom of your dug hole. Throughout the years, you still need to provide adequate fertilizer onto your plant bulbs. Soluble fertilizers and the phosphate fertilizers must again be supplied onto the bulbs.
Spring bulbs are just like any other plants that need extra care and affection from its owners. This is essential for their sustenance and growth that would benefit no other than the owner himself.
