Collectibles, also known as collectables or collector's items, are objects of an intrinsic value to a collector. Collectible objects may be manufactured for people who support a specific product or media; they may be acquired through auction, bought from garage sales, and even sought after from the internet.

In an attempt to sort the different types of collectibles people are fond of, this list may serve as a guide. The types are determined according to how the collector's items are made available and how they are being acquired by collectors.

Advertising

Mostly attached to marketing promotions or brand consciousness drive, collectible items may come along as a free treat from purchasing a product (prize), it may be made available as a accompaniment for purchase (premium) or it may be a limited product available to its collector or patrons (special edition). This has proven to be an effective strategy in keeping sales up while retaining a strong customer base. Exampled under this type are as follows:

Action figures. With franchising making this possible, action figures from comics are made alive in the movies and a preserved through action figures. Notable examples are Star Wars characters. Sports cards. These are cards referencing an individual's support of a specific team in a game. Sports cards have been popularized under those games where teams are playing. Examples are basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, and jersey.

Memorabilia

Collectibles under this type are various objects that do not share the same attribute expect for their affinity to an event, person, media, or an organization. In a sense, it is collecting as much items that is related to a specific event, person, etc. Examples under this are as follows:

Media. This includes movie or concert tickets, DVD release of a concert, posters and other advertisement mediums of the movie of concert, and even autographed pictures or giveaways.

Organizations. Stickers pertaining to a political or an organizational campaign are classified under this type. It may include signage, stickers, buttons, or even scouting insignias and props.
Event. Memorabilia from sports events fall under this type.

Souvenir

Like memorabilia, these are objects collected from travelling. General objects collected under this type may be further grouped according to the purpose of travel which may be as follows:

Postcards. Depicting pictures of the places a person has visited or someone has visited.

Cultural items. This may include spoons, plates, and other materials that speak of a specific culture.

Clothing. Shirts and trunks are collected as evidence of being travelled somewhere.
