A fibreglass pool can come with a wide assortment of options, so many that it can be difficult to choose just which ones you want. Of course, your budget will limit the kinds of features you can get with your pool. But once you get past that consideration, what are the different types of options available? Here is a short overview of some of the most popular.
Pool decks. Choosing the right pool deck can greatly enhance the look of your swimming pool as well as its usability, since it will also be used as an area for lounging, sun bathing and possibly even dining. The most common material used for decks is concrete, which can be poured directly to the lip of the pool itself, and is flexible enough to be colored and stamped into a variety of attractive designs. However, a concrete deck must be planned carefully since it is very difficult to change once the concrete has hardened. Apart from poured concrete, you can also use concrete pavers (bricks) and natural stone on your deck, which are more expensive but which will give you aesthetically more pleasing results.
Pool coping. Coping refers to the material that is used to top the shell wall of the fibreglass pool. Your options can include poured concrete that offers a smooth transition from the deck to the pool itself, which makes the deck and the area around the pool look cleaner; natural stone or brick made of materials such as quarried granite or fieldstone; and precast concrete, which is available in a variety of colors and textures.
Pool fence. A fence can serve several functions, from providing some privacy to swimmers to restricting access to the pool for safety reasons. The cheapest option for a pool fence is wood, although it will require more maintenance due to the high moisture content of the area around which it is being used. However, you can use a PVC fence, which is slightly more expensive but is more durable and water-resistant, or a powdered aluminum fence, which is the most expensive type of fence but is also the most attractive looking.
Pool lighting. This will make the pool safer to use when swimming at night as well as providing some aesthetic value. The most frequently used lights are LED lights with cords that extend above the waterline so they can be changed easily and allow you to change the color of the lights by flicking a switch. Another option is fibertropic lights that are placed on the edge of the pool, above deck level, and shine their lights into the water for a striking effect.
Water features. These features include cascades, slides, built-in waterfalls, deck jets and other options that greatly enhance the look of the pool. There is a wide variety of these options available for a fibreglass pool and your choice is determined by your budget and what you want your pool to look like, as well as the expense of installing them.
