Palm trees have gotten their reputation as one of the best tree ornaments for almost all kinds of properties. They have been seen in homes, in business centers, in malls, in hotels, in offices, on top of buildings and in many other places. Imagining a beach without a palm tree would be like imagining yourself without your brows, or your nose, or just about anything that makes your face look whole. Palms are things that you could very easily picture in your mind, and the places where they could be put might be put in an endless list.

What is a palm tree? In religion and faith, palms have symbolized faith and triumph, plenty and peace. Some ancient civilizations regard the tree as a holy symbol. Palms consist of all species under the family Arecaceae. However, not all palms are trees. Some of them are just shrubs, and not all of them could be as high as those which you see in beaches. Some palm species could be just as high as an average person.

There are more than 2500 species of palm trees in the world, but most of them could only live in warm climates, with tropical countries being the most ideal place for them to grow. There are many places in Asia wherein they grow, but there are also places in Africa where palms thrive. In history, some of the first known palms were planted and cultivated thousands of years ago in the Middle East, most commonly in Mesopotamia, and these are also known as date palms. It was also in these countries that people first knew the benefits of planting palm trees.

Palms are flowering plants, and the many different fruits that different species could bear have helped civilizations in the Middle East grow more than many other plants in the place. The trees have also been used by people for shade because of its large leaves. To date, the palm is one of the most useful trees in the world. The products that people have made from palms include, but are not limited to: carpets, hats, baskets and bags. As a whole, palms are also used as tree decorations. When wartime came in America just some hundreds of years ago, palm trees were used as fort materials.

There are many uses for palms, and it is one of the main reasons why it is one of the most planted trees in tens of different places all over the world. Palms are very popular as lawn ornaments, interior and outdoor decorations and buying a potted palm could be a very good idea especially if your home is in a relatively warmer place. If you want to have the beauty of palm trees in your home but are scared that they wouldn't be able to survive the cold climate, then you could settle for artificial palms. Though they might sometimes cost a bit more, artificial palms could be very easily maintained and they would be much harder to damage.
