Couples spend a lot of time preparing for their wedding. They make time to ensure that everything is good from the wedding dress they will wear to the souvenirs that will be given to the guests. They give special attention even to the tiniest detail to make sure that everything is going to be perfect. And the first things you would see from all the things that they prepared are the wedding invitations.
Wedding invitations are normally sent early so that guests would also have time to prepare for the event. Sometimes a wedding invitation is preceded by a save the date invite but this one does not include important information about the wedding except for the date itself.
You have probably received a lot of wedding invitations and you have most likely noticed that all of them are different. There is no standard format in making invitations for weddings. But there are basic things that must be contained inside the invite.
First, the name of the couple must be there. Well this is quite obvious. Nobody has probably ever missed this. But the question is do you know which name should come first. The general rule is that the bride's name should come first. Some put the first name and the family name of the bride. Others put the first name and the middle name only. The latter is the more formal format. As for the groom, you have no choice but to put the first name and family name. Adding a title like Dr. or simply Mr. is done if you want it more formal.
Next, the names of both sets of parents have to be placed . Usually, their names are even placed ahead of the couple to be wedded. This is because tradition says that they are the ones inviting guests to the wedding of their children. Again, traditionally, they are also the ones spending for the event. However, in many situations now, it is already the couples who are spending for it. But just the same, placing the names of the parents as the ones making the invitations has been maintained .
The next thing you need to put is the date and time. Traditionally, both the date and the time are spelled out. However, there are couples now who just write the numbers straight out. You all know that it is shorter and easier that way. Besides, guests usually make quick scans of these details so numbers are more practical.
You also need to put where the ceremony will be and where the reception will follow. Sometimes, you can insert a map especially if the location is not a very common place.
The dress code must also be included so that everybody will be dressed appropriately. This is important to guests because they do not want to become scene-stealers during the wedding by coming either overdressed or underdressed.
A request for R.S.V.P. is also added to make sure that you will have a more or less accurate count of the guests who will arrive. This is important later on in the preparation especially in the area of seating arrangements for the reception.
