TIPS FOR THE NETWORK MARKETING 'NEWBIE'
Issue # 2
In my previous Article we talked about Guru's, Mentor's, Business Opportunities and Time Management, a firm understanding of which, is fundamental to any online business or Network Marketer, as these will be the bedrock on which you build your Home Based Business!
So for the sake of this post we might just look a little deeper into these!
The Guru –
By Definition The Guru from the Sanskrit as One who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a certain area, and uses it to guide others (teacher). Other forms of manifestation of this principle can include parents, school teachers and non human objects such as books. –Wikipedia-
Whilst this does hold true by definition to the network marketing or home business Guru, it has been my experience, that the online guru will impart only so much 'wisdom' at any one time! Whilst some marketers are smart enough to read between the lines and manage to create a successful online business from the information these Guru's impart, by and large this marketing 'training' they impart (usually at a cost) is just enough for you to stumble through the maze whilst waiting for the next 'pearl of wisdom'
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that these people are just out to scam you, Their membership's and site's are full of valuable information.
What I am saying is, at what stage, do stop spending money in an attempt to make money, if you get my drift.
The Mentor –
"Mentoring" is a process that involves communication and is relationship based, but, it's precise definition is elusive. One Definition of the many that have been proposed is:
Mentoring is a process for the informal transmission of knowledge, social capital, and psychological support, perceived, by the recipient as relevant to work, career, or professional development, usually over a sustained period of time by a person who is perceived to have a greater relevant knowledge, wisdom, or experience (the mentor) and a person who is perceived to have less (the protégé) –Wikipedia-
So there you have the difference by definition between a 'Guru' and a 'Mentor' I think you might a agree here that to those new to network marketing and running their own home based business, though both have their intrinsic value the 'mentor' is of greater value. This is increasingly true if your 'Mentor' is also your Business opportunity sponsor. As most business opportunities are dependant on, referring/sponsoring and building a down line, it becomes in your 'Mentors' best interest to ensure that you are successful in building your own business as soon as possible, primarily because his/her success is based on ensuring you succeed! To this end it becomes of primary importance to those new to home based business, or network marketing that you do your homework and find a 'mentor' who's network marketing business is a good fit for them. This is called 'doing your due diligence'!
Talk with your prospective mentor, research his/her business find out as much information about the two before making your decision as to which course of action you wish to take.
But once having done that and you feel comfortable with that, the next step is to 'Take Action" As nothing happens without 'Action'
Your choice of Mentor and business opportunity are one thing, but once that decision is made, there is nothing neither your mentor nor your business opportunity can do for you if you are not prepared to take 'Action'
Time Management –
As stated in my last post Time management skills are of paramount importance to every network marketer! Most especially when you are first starting out. As most new marketers are going to initially be part time (very few new to it can afford to just toss in their day jobs and concentrate 100% on their business).
Therefore it is important to sit down and think about how much time per day you can afford to dedicate to your business. Write it down, than discuss it with those around you so that they get a clear picture that it is this particular parcel of time that is dedicated to building your business. Discuss why you are doing this so that they get a clearer understanding of exactly why this time is yours, be that you are attempting to build something that will in the end allow you to spend more quality time with them.
Now that you have those parameters set, what is required here is to break it down into parcels or portions of time!
How much time, are you prepared to invest in your education? That's right education......
Successful network marketers will all agree that 90% of their success is achieving the right mindset, which takes a bit of reeducation, you need to investigate and become fully conversant with your business opportunity, it's compensation plan, and how it works. Nothing will drive potential business partners away quicker than talking with some one who is not fully conversant with their business opportunity and how it works.
This is also a time to be developing your business plan. Where do you see your business in 3 months, 6 months, 12 months.
How do you plan to get there? It takes planned consistent Action. No successful business, online or bricks and mortar will survive much less succeed without a structured plan, to not have a plan will just have you flailing around in the jungle, with a hit or miss mentality.
At first your reeducation will probably take up the bulk of your allocated time, but do not underestimate the value of this time as it will be the foundation on which you build your home based business, remember, Rome was not built in a day, and nor will your business, to think otherwise will surely lead to failure and you eventually quitting.
Read, sit in on webinars, ask questions, discuss it with your mentor, but be respectful, and remember that your mentor is also building a business too, and as much as he/she is there to guide you, you do not want to become annoying instead become resourceful. If your mentor points you in the right direction you should be able to find more than enough information to help, just be aware of information overload, do not go scurrying all over the internet to find a mountain of information, just find the stuff you need and study that.
Conclusion –
So, with all the above taken into account, it is time for Action. Make your decision do you take the route of the Guru, or the Mentor.
Research and choose your Business Opportunity. Of paramount importance here especially for the beginner marketer, is took for low startup costs, and residual compensation, that is do the work once and continue to be paid.
Choose your business opportunity, do your due diligence, make you decision, FOCUS and Take ACTION!
