A high quality chess set is usually made from wood but other materials like glass, marble, metal, leather, pewter, and ceramic can be used as well. The more expensive sets have chess pieces made of precious metals like gold and silver or at times made of other precious items like ivory and jade. High end sets usually abide by standard sizes and dimensions. However, note that an outdoor chess set and other larger sets can also be ordered and purchased.
