The New Testament is a collection of books authored by the apostles of Christ. In general, the books talk about Jesus Christ. His life, death, resurrection and teachings are the basis of many Christian religions nowadays, and these final books in the latter testament have been solid foundations of these religions. What is the New Testament? What books does it contain, and what do these books relate to readers?
There are 27 books in the latter parts of the Bible. It contains 260 chapters and 7,957 verses altogether. Of these books, 4 of them are considered the Gospels, literally meaning "good news". These are the books of John, Matthew, Mark and Luke. These are also considered as history books, as they relate the stories of Jesus Christ. However, the book of Acts is also considered a history book.
This testament also contained 21 epistles or letters that were made by the apostles. These letters are mostly for the church members who they plan to visit or have already visited, but there are times when there is only one addressee, as in the case of Titus. However, there are also epistles that have general addressees, with no particular audience. The books were divided into five: the Gospels, the Acts, the Pauline Epistles, the General Epistles and the Revelation.
After Jesus' death and resurrection, the apostles continued on to administer the church that was founded by Jesus Christ. The accounts of this ministry are what a reader would see in the book of Acts, also known as the Acts of the Apostles. This book was authored by Luke, and it is the second book that he has written. However, this book is not to be confused with the history of their administration. Basically, this book narrates their administration alongside the creation of the Christian Church.
The New Testament also contains a book of prophecies about what would happen in the last battle of the good and the evil, also known as the Armageddon or Apocalypse. The book is more commonly referred to as the Book of Revelation, and this is because of the things that were revealed to Apostle John when he was held prisoner by the Romans. This book was the last of the all the books. It is the 66th book, making it the youngest book ever included in the Bible.
The New Testament was originally written in Greek, and was translated to more than a hundred different dialects and languages in all parts of the world. The original manuscripts of these latter books are also handwritten in Greek. It was only 1454 that the Bible was printed, and it was the first book to be printed.
The New Testament is, without a doubt, among the most influential books of all time. It deals not only with the history of the first Christian church, but also with the teachings that have become the foundation of not only this earliest church, but also of thousands of different churches in different parts of the world.
