If you have fish as pets, there are a number of pet products that you need to have. Having an aquarium, fish bowl or fish tank are a given, but then, what happens after a few days when the fish, water and even some plants and other decor are already there? Like any other living quarters, aquariums also get dirty. Thus, aquarium filtration systems are a must. However, for beginner fish keepers, the selections can be pretty overwhelming, mainly because they can sound too technical, like someone speaking in a language you can't understanmd. However, making things simple by doing some reading into what these aquarium filtration systems are will make any beginner realize that they're really not that difficult to understand, and shopping for these pet products is quite easy.
Simply put, an aquarium filtration system is a set of implements put in a fish tank or aquarium so that the water in it will remain clean. With the fish waste and uneaten fish food remaining in the water, organisms that live there will eventually get sick if these substances are not removed. As an owner of an aquarium, it would be a chore to have to change the water inside the tank every day. To make it easier to maintain the aquarium without having to change the water every day (which is quite impractical as well), a filtration system should be installed.
With that said, a reverse osmosis system holds the reputation of being the most effective aquarium filtration system. According to users, it has the capacity to remove close to 99 percent of substances in the water that can turn harmful to fishes. As you may have studied in grade school science, osmosis is the transfer of a liquid from one side of a membrane to another side, which has less concentration of the liquid. Thus, in reverse osmosis, what happens is that the semi-permeable membrane stops the transfer of dirt and other substances back to the water, so dirty water is trapped in the system, not to return in the tank.
Other aquarium filtration systems use the process of deionization. The system has an ionizer that exchanges ions of the water that passes through it, so what is introduced back to the tank is pure water without impurities.
The efficiency of these filtration systems depend on a number of factor. If there are more fishes in the tank, there will be more waste produced. Should the system be unable to keep up with the mounts of waste produced, you may need to purchase a system with a larger capacity. The species of fish that you keep is also a factor of how good the filtration system will function. Some species of fish like the goldfish will require a cleaning system that is more efficient as they have greater mass. Alas, how often you feed your pet fish will also be a factor on how clean your aquarium will be. Overfeeding will obviously result in more uneaten food which will require your filtration system to work double time. Try to make sure that you consider these factors before purchasing pet products for your fish, particularly filtration systems.
