An electric toothbrush may not exactly be an essential for everyone but it does help a lot of people brush properly. People who are out to buy one should consider a few things before purchasing a brush of this type. Not every battery powered brush out in stores today is the same. The important thing is to find one that can meet a consumer's needs.
Type of Brush
Obviously, one of the things that people would like to know is the types of battery powered brushes that they may encounter. Well, there is really no standard rule that will define how to categorize them but people usually classify these tools depending on the type of brushing action the tool employs.
The two types of brushing action employed by brushes of this type are rotation or oscillation and vibration. A vibrating toothbrush works pretty much like an ordinary toothbrush that everyone is used to. Oscillating or rotating brushes have bristles spinning around, which no longer requires users to use manual brushing action.
Speed Matters
Other than the type of action employed by an electric toothbrush, there are other things that need to be considered such as the speed of oscillation. Since many people prefer using a battery powered brush with rotating bristles then they should be aware of differences in oscillation.
They should also be aware of the features of a sonic toothbrush as compared to a normal oscillating toothbrush. Regular rotating toothbrushes oscillate at the rate of 7,500 rpm, which is already good for most people. On the other hand, a sonic rotating toothbrush oscillates its bristles at the rate of 30,000 rpm, which does the job a lot faster come to think of it.
Another advantage of the sonic oscillating toothbrush is that it causes the fluid all around the user's teeth to oscillate as well thus causing some additional serious teeth cleaning action. They help people clean those hard to reach areas that bristles don't usually get to. The only drawback to a sonic oscillating toothbrush is its price, which may be just too expensive compared to regular oscillating toothbrushes.
Power Settings
Consumers should also consider the power settings of electric toothbrushes. This may not have a direct impact on the efficiency of a toothbrush but they do help with the kids. Children are more sensitive to the vibrations of battery powered toothbrushes and some may not want to use them because of it. A toothbrush that has lower power settings can lessen the amount of vibrations making it more congenial for the kids.
Multiple/Replaceable Brush Heads
Having replaceable brush heads is an added convenience for consumers. This means that people only need to replace the brush heads rather than buying a new unit. It definitely spells out a lot of savings for shoppers. An electric toothbrush that accommodates different sized brush heads will make things more convenient for children. If the brush head that came with the unit is too big then parents can just replace it rather than get the unit replaced.
The other features like a timer, bells, whistles, and base size come next though they are not as important as these aforementioned factors. These are only some of the important things to consider when people shop for an electric toothbrush.
