Throughout an average student's life there are a few key decisions which will influence them forever. Two of those concern what do next in their education and career, having finished their high school education or graduated from university. Both sets of students reach a crossroads at which they've to decide whether to carry on straight ahead, right or left. Each student is individual, therefore that is something of a simplification. However there are some common aspects which virtually every student goes up against at these junctions, perceiving that the decision they make will affect their education, career and life paths.
The 1st notable junction appears after the conclusion of high school studies. In many circumstanceses the decisions will have been made already, as a result of mediocre high school grades. For the higher placed high school graduates, the major options are between going onto university or college and hoping to join the graduate ranks; taking a year out to travel before continuing their education and learning; going immediately into work; or finding a community college course that will swiftly train them for work opportunities that might be available in the community. There are variants on these options, and totally different choices, but these are usually the most common.
There are a couple of significant factors, besides ability, that influence all students getting out of high school and choosing what to do next. Financial status is one. Student debt level is a profoundly serious headache these days so each and every student must find the correct balance between their needs for education and training against a sensible financial path. The other is if their selected career would gain more from actual workplace experience or further training and education.
For a lot of students there is frequently a tremendous compromise possible, which is choosing a community college course that features hands on training and true work experience as a part of the program. A young student has an adult life ahead of them so making the wrong choice at this stage need not be destructive. There are plenty of possibilities to follow another track later. Having said that, given the financial fallouts of a profoundly wrong decision at this stage, it is best to make a very considered decision and get it right.
For graduates there are similar choices and again money will enter into the selecting process. Staying within the education system for too long without real life work experience may be a disadvantage in some trades, especially in difficult times when businesses mostly are trying to finding experience first. Continuing studies towards a masters degree or a professional qualification are certainly first choice for many. The possibility of online programs are most definitely beneficial at this stage, because students can often get a job then study for their masters degree online to complete their conventional education.
