Having the right diving equipment is needed when one wants to learn how to scuba dive. Your under the sea adventure is not just all about flippers and air supply. There are a lot of other important equipment hat you must have for a proper dive. If you are just starting to learn about this hobby, here are a list of the things you need to acquire.
Air Tank - without this, you simply cannot breathe underwater, unless of course if you have gills! find a tank that provides ample supply of compressed air so you breathe comfortably when you go scuba diving. If you have the budget to buy a re-breather, is lighter and more compact and a little more expensive than an oxygen tank, you can do so. This is a small electronic device that recycles the air you used, thus reintroducing oxygen.
Face Mask - you'll find different types of face masks like goggles and snorkels. Goggles are smaller while snorkels are best used in shallow water. but, if you are serious about scuba diving, purchase a full face mask equipped with communication device that will allow you to have communication with your diving partners while you are under the sea. This is ideal if you intend to take extended dives.
Thermal Suit - also called the wet suit. It can get really cold under the water so you will need a full body wet suit. This diving equipment is made from rubber and wraps and clings to the body to keep you insulated as you dive. This also serves as a diver's protection against rough surfaces. The wet suit is highly pressurized so that in case you incur small wounds while under water you don't bleed. This feature is important especially if you are diving in the open seas where sharks abound, you don't want to invite sharks as your diving buddies!
Fins - you need to be able to move around underwater hence you'll need this diving equipment to swim. You can also purchase a diving motor if you don't want to manually do the swimming, which could be very tiring. It is also called Diver Propulsion Device, which is actually an electric motor that does the swimming for you.
Weighted Plates - divers need some kind of a heavy metal so that they can propel themselves down to the water. These plates are adjustable so you don't have to worry about being propelled down to the bottom abruptly. Remember that your body is naturally buoyant, meaning you will normally float in water, more so in salt water.
Compass - you need these so you can navigate underwater so a compass is an important diving equipment. Along with this, you'll need gauges that will measure how deep you are going.
Dive Markers/Floating Buoys - these will indicate where you are diving, this is for safety purposes. This will also let passing boats know that a diver is underwater.
Sonar Light - there are areas underwater that are not reached by the sunshine and it becomes pitched black down there so a portable sonar light is essential.
First Air Kit - you should never go without a First Air Kit and there are special kits designed for scuba divers.
With your knowledge about the important diving equipment, you are now ready for an under the sea adventure!
