Practically anyone who is attending school, regardless of age and education level, studies the human anatomy in various methods. School children learn about the basic body parts such as the arms, head, legs, eyes, mouth and nose. There are even some basic children's song that can be taught in order to make it easier for children to remember the names of the various body parts.

In the intermediate level, the study of human anatomy is usually incorporated in biology class. The teachings are now more detailed compared to the basic body parts taught to school children. It now includes the study of the internal organs and its main functions. Students are also taught about the various body systems such as the circulatory system, digestive system and reproductive system, among others. Teaching anatomy in the intermediate level usually require textbooks as well as illustrations. Some teachers use instructional videos as a method of teaching. Some classrooms may also have a replica of a skeletal system displayed to serve as a guide for students. They may also be taught about the most common diseases and conditions, just to provide them an overview and also to serve as a health precaution.

In college level education, human anatomy and physiology is taught in various methods and amount, depending on the student's degree. Engineering students for example, have little need of this knowledge and may only get one course subject on basic anatomy or biology. The scenario is different for medical students who have a more intensive need for this knowledge. The human anatomy is considered as the cornerstone of any medical education. This is especially needed for those enrolled in course degrees such as biology, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacology, physical therapists, and the like.

Medical students often use a lot of various textbooks to study anatomy. One of the most popular and widely used textbooks is the one entitled Gray's Anatomy. It is a medical textbook written by Henry Gray which has been used in numerous medical schools and has undergone various revisions as the continuing studies on the anatomic structure of human beings continue to progress. The book is currently in its 40th revised edition which was only recently released in the year 2008.

Medical students may also experience practical application in learning anatomy through the method of dissection or prosection. Some universities will require individual students to dissect certain animals such as a frog in order to study, inspect and identify the parts and the internal organs of the animal. Some similarities to the human anatomical structure can be seen in the internal structure of certain animals. Prosection is the method of learning about the human anatomy through observing a professional anatomist dissect a human cadaver. In this method, the students only watch and take notes while the procedure of dissection is methodically done to provide detailed instructions to the students.

Truly, the subject of anatomy is one of the most difficult subjects to study in the field of medicine. There are a lot of identification and memorization involved. Some people just do not have a photographic memory and may need extra help in order to cope. Some who are more at ease with visual learning purchase instructional videos to aid them in further understanding the functions and remember the scientific names of each body parts as opposed to just reading about it on textbooks. Some who have trouble memorizing use audio method played in an audio player that repeats the various body parts as they listen to it, helping them retain the names as well as the functions.
