Below are some very simple tips in taking care of hockey jerseys.

You need to know how to wash the jersey. If you have it tacked in your living room or you have it hanging over your bed's headboard, the jersey will end up accumulating dust and dirt over time. Thus, to keep in new looking, you will need to wash it occasionally. In washing, you need to use cold water with gentle cycle and wash it with the inside out to protect the jersey logo. Then, air dry it instead of using the dryer to maintain the integrity of the prints on the jersey. Do not be tempted to iron it even if it is a bit wrinkly. When you air dry it by hanging it on a plastic hanger, that will usually remove those unsightly wrinkles already.

You may be tempted to wear the jersey seeing as it has been worn for a year by your favorite hockey team. But even if you want to look like a player of the Vancouver Canucks or of the Minnesota Wild on your next friendly hockey game, you should not wear your vintage hockey jersey. If you wear the authentic jersey you bought, you might end up ripping it during your game or constant use will make it look dull and faded. To keep your jersey as immaculate as you first bought it, never use it on a real live hockey match.

If in case you wore the authentic jersey and the patch that was iron-on started to go out of place, there is a way to remove this from your vintage jersey. The first thing to do here is to use a seam ripper or a thin sharp pair of scissors to remove the fine stitching along the patch. Once the stitches are removed, use an iron to heat the patch and remove the glue that was used to secure the iron-on. Place a sheet of plain white paper or a washcloth between the patch and the iron to protect the patch and the jersey from burning.

Peel the patch then place it in the correct position on a flat table, slowly removing the bubbles. Then sew the patch back.

Store the jersey in a cool place, preferably enclosed in a wide and spacious plastic frame. Doing so will lessen the need for you to wash the jersey. It will also protect hockey jerseys from accidental spills and rips from people admiring it as it is enclosed in its own plastic cocoon.
