Los Altos massage therapists deliver the massage using slow, deliberate strokes to focus pressure on layers of muscles and tendons under the skin. Deep tissue massage can be very therapeutic but may also result in some stiffness afterwards which usually goes away within a day or two.

Hot stone massage. This form of massage uses hot stones on certain parts of the body, particularly those with acupressure points, to transmit soothing heat deep into the body. The stones may be momentarily left on the body or used as massage tools.

Shiatzu massage. Shiatzu means finger pressure and this type of massage applies varied rhythmic pressures on acupressure points through which the body s chi, or energy, passes. Applying pressure on these points is believed to strengthen the body s healing ability, promote better circulation and ease muscle tension. The Shiatzu therapist uses fingers, thumbs and palms in a continuous rhythmic sequence which can be as relaxing as more conventional forms of massage.

Thai massage. Los Altos massage practitioners of Thai massage use their entire body, particularly legs, knees and feet, apart from hands, to manipulate the patient into a variety of positions. The massage is usually performed on a padded mat on the floor and, unlike other forms of massage, the client is dressed during the session as no oil is used during the session.
