Are you having problems with your freezer door not staying closed? Is your food not keeping a good temperature? These can be signs of a freezer door seal gone bad. The good thing is that this job is something that almost anyone can do. It just takes a little bit of time and very little money. Not changing your seals when you notice the issue is just costing you money because you are letting cold air escape from the freezer which makes it kick on and run more to keep the temperature it is set at. Everything you need to complete this task is fairly inexpensive and will have instructions on how to complete the job. Having the owner's manual handy is also a great idea when you are taking on a task even though it is a simple one. Even the slightest mistake when you are attaching the new seal can cause the job to be worthless.
Make sure that the seal you are replacing matches the same one you are purchasing. There are seals that will fit every make and model however you have to cut it down to fit it. It is best just to buy the specific brand and model that goes with your freezer. Taking the old one with you is always best because you can compare the two.
Make sure you place the seal in the refrigerator for a short while before fitting the gasket. This helps to acclimate the seal with the freezer.
The next step is removing the old seal. You may have screws to remove and then there are some than are simply glued on. Make sure you take a look before jerking it off because you could damage other parts of the freezer.
Once you take off those screws, there will be fasteners present that you have to take off. Do not take off the actual door panel! The seal could be held in place by clips so make sure you pry these off using a screwdriver but try not to damage the integrity of the clip because you will have to use them again.
Once the old seal is off, clean the whole area with warm, soapy water so that any glue or residue will come off.
When you go to put the new seal on, make sure you do it one section at a time and this will minimize any mistakes that you may have when attaching it. Smooth out the seal as best as you can while using seal cement to keep the gasket in place. The seal cannot have any spaces or lumps present so make sure you take your time.
Once the seal is on, you can start to put the screws back in to hold the gasket in place.
