Having a dehumidifier is not only a machine that can help control the air quality, it can also help improve your health and the health of the ones around you. For years, physicians have said that adding a humidifier to a room can help clear up medical conditions like mold and allergy issues, not to mention numerous other medical problems. Even though there are hundreds of dehumidifiers on the market today, of not thousands, they all have the same purpose and the same internal workings. The mechanics of a machine like this really cannot be changed too much from year to year. Manufacturers may be able to change the look a machine but not the way a machine actually works because when it all comes down it; all dehumidifiers do the same thing. The only issue is that some will work, or claim to, work better than others.

If you already own a dehumidifier or plan to purchase one in the near future, you might want to consider the type of machine you are buying and what type of parts are installed. Many consumers like to buy machines that they may be able to repair if they are able to so shopping around is always a good idea. If you happen to already own a dehumidifier and you are having problems, take a look below and see if any of these tips can help you. Remember to have your machine unplugged before testing as this is just a precaution!

Take the cover off your machine and find the evaporator and condenser coils. They will probably need cleaning, so it is a good idea to be ready to do so. You condenser may be clogged with dirt or dust so check that also. The fan could be dry so lubricating it with a light oil would be a very smart move at this point.

Checking the humidistat is next on the list and you will need a meter called a "Volt-Ohm" which you can pick up at a department or hardware store. Set the meter forward all the way until it gets to the RX setting and attach the wires to the terminals (humidistat). You can always check your owner's manual or talk with the hardware store for help.

The terminals should be at 0 and if it registers through anywhere else then that means that the terminals need to be replaced.

If you have replaced all of this and it still is not working then you may want to go ahead and consider buying a new one or calling in a professional. A dehumidifier is very important to the quality of life in your home so do not put it off.
