Build a Swing set with Swing seats and a Fort for Plenty of Fun Outdoor play

Swing sets are fun for old and young alike. It is very enjoyable watching your children have fun with lots of outdoor play on the swing set that you built for them. This can seem a daunting task but just take it step by step and before you know it you will have a beautiful swing set.

The design is the fun part, make sure that you do plenty of research and if you don't feel comfortable with your ability as a designer to make your swing set safe, you may want to consider purchasing a kit. These have done all of the design work for you and you just follow the directions to put it together. This is a very good option for those that don't feel comfortable with doing it from scratch.

So now you have your design and your materials list in hand, you head out to you home improvement store to buy the materials but wait, be sure and take an inventory of your tools so you know if there are any you need to purchase for this job. You will most likely need a cordless drill, skill saw, miter saw, and some wrenches.

Even if you choose not to buy one of the pre-designed kits you can buy the brackets for the angles at the top of the swing and the side braces. You will also need to buy the swing seats for your swing set. Outdoor play is something every family will appreciate so involve the whole family in this project they will enjoy it and you will need the help.

First you will need to put together the legs of your swing set. You will do this by using the brackets at the top and use four by four pressure treated planks ten feet long so you can bury them and cement them two feet into the ground. A two by six board can be used to brace the legs about halfway up attached with carriage bolts. You will also need a four by six plank for the center support which will hold your swing seats. Attach all of this together using carriage bolts. You will want to drill holes and put the swing seats on while the swing is still lying on its side.

If you want to build a fort on to the side of your swing set you can use one of your two by six braces and build the floor of the fort off of that. A fort is a nice addition to you swing set.

Use an auger or a hole digger to dig the holes to anchor the legs. You will need some helpers to upright the swing set and place it in the holes. Once you have leveled it pour a bag of already mixed cement in each hole, put some water in, and give it a day or so to harden and you're ready for plenty of outdoor play.
