A shop full of wood working power tools is a most exciting thing. If you have the proper wood working power tools you will be able to build most anything. A good table saw is invaluable and there are some out there that can almost build your project for you. There are extra attachments which can help complete almost any project you can think of.

In this article I will explain how to make a bird house. This is a project that can be very simple or you can get very fancy with it and make a luxury bird hotel. Kids usually love to build a birdhouse.

Decide on the size of your bird house and get the wood accordingly. Cut the two walls to size and then cut the back and front to overlap the end of each wall. When you cut the front and back pieces you must include the angles for the pitch of the roof. Use a nail gun and an air compressor to nail the walls together. Or you may choose to do it the old fashioned way and use a hammer, that's fine too.

Next cut the roof to size, and miter the top of each side of the roof to match the angle of the front and back piece that you already cut. Attach the roof to the top of the bird house. Lay the bird house on its back in a vise to hold it securely in place. Decide how large you want the hole of the bird house to be. Using a power drill from your collection of woodworking power tools and a hole saw cut the hole to size. Underneath the large hole you can drill a smaller quarter inch or so hole. Cut a piece of quarter inch dowel about three inches long to stick in the hole for the birds to perch on.

Now for the floor, for this you can take your bird house and set it on a piece of wood, using the corner of the piece of wood for the back and one side and then using a pencil mark the other side. You can make a porch on the front by using a round object proportionately sized, for example, if you have a larger bird house you could use a small tomato paste can to outline the corner of the porch on either side a quarter would work for a small bird house and then draw a line straight across the top of the circles for the front of the porch. A jig saw will be the tool you will need from your woodworking power tool collection for this part of the job. Nail it to the bottom and you're ready for paint.

You can mount the bird house on a pole or Hang it from a tree or the side of your house. Then just sit back and have fun watching the birds enjoy their new home.
