The Many Uses of Bench top Power Tools

I love bench top power tools and one of my favorites is the scroll saw. The drill press comes in a close second on the list of my favorite bench top power tools. Next would probably be the belt sander and then the ban saw. There are bench top lathes and grinders, depending on your needs there is probably a bench top tool out there that will meet that need.

The scroll saw is a good tool for intricate delicate work. Artist use scroll saws to cut incredibly intricate patterns out of pieces of wood or plastic, they spend hours and hours cutting out these designs in part because they are just very intricate and because they have to remove the blade for each section of the wood being cut out drill a hole large enough to fit through the whole. I personally have done bone carving and used a scroll saw to cut out the basic pattern for my carving and then I would use a high speed rotary tool for the intricate carving.

A drill press is a very useful bench top power tool for all sorts of projects in the shop. This tool can drill holes very straight while using a hand drill no matter how good you are will have some angle to it. This is not a high speed tool although they do come with adjustable speeds. You place the object on a little table on the drill press and lower the drill to it and start cutting.

Belt Sanders are great bench top power tools to have as part of your shop. These are usually used to remove a lot of material quickly. You can also use a bench top belt sander to shape round corner and other things like that.

Bench top grinders are also used to shape things but usually metal. The major use for this tool is for sharpening things like knives and other hand tools in your shop. This is also a very useful tool to have in your shop.

Bench top shaping tools are tools with different size spindles for shaping wood. First you cut the basic shape out using either a jig saw or a bench scroll saw. Then you use the appropriate size spindle for getting the exact shape and detail that you desire.

A bench top lathe is a more specialty tool, they are a great tool to have and work with. You put your raw shape in the lathe for making a table leg or a spindle and many other possibilities. The lathe spins the piece very fast and very sharp shaping tools are used to shape the wood as it spins.

No matter what the project there is always a tool to help make things easier and more pleasurable in your effort to complete that project.
