Owning a sewing machine is not only cost efficient but it also offers a possible hobby and a way to repair items that need repair like clothing and blankets and other types of bedding. The sewing machine has been around for decades, the electric one has anyways. The hand wheel, or non-electric one, has been around for centuries in one way or fashion. These are considered very sturdy appliances that can be used for decades and even longer if they are kept up and properly maintained. If one should stop working, it may just need to be oiled or cleaned or maybe even a belt replaced. More often than not, it is nothing worse than these things.

When you go to repair your sewing machine, it is imperative that you know what you are doing. If you have been sewing for a while, chances are that you already know how to repair your machine and this will all be second nature to you. However, if you are just starting out you, may need some simple instructions on how to repair your machine if something should go wrong: Below is a simple walkthrough on how to repair your sewing machine if something should happen and it should stop working.

Make sure you unfasten every side of the cover which entails the side, bottom and top covers of the hand wheel and you will probably have to use a screwdriver to do this.

Remove the thread bobbin plate (covers the thread bobbin). You might have to unscrew this also. Sometimes it is just magnetized so just pry it up if you have to.

Once you get inside, make sure you start cleaning everything you see using a small vacuum. All visible dirt and link should be removed with tweezers if you have them.

Cleaning the gear teeth is very important and to do this just take the round side of a toothpick and pick off the dirt. Then take the small vacuum and remove the dirt.

Try and lubricate all parts that you can tell should move. Using lithium grease on gears is a great idea and all other parts of the sewing machine should get regular machinery oil.

Put everything back together and plug the machine in.

Cleaning your sewing machine is easy if you knowing what you are doing and replacing parts is easy also but it is always good to ask around and do research if you do not know. Do not be ashamed if you do not know how to repair your machine. Asking for help is never a bad thing, especially if your machine gets fixed the right way the first time.
